Lyle
Harris
Personal Law Corporation
Lyle has practiced almost exclusively in the areas of insurance
and personal injury law for 26
years. During that time, he has conducted numerous trials for insurers
(including Insurance
Corporation of British Columbia) and plaintiffs.
He graduated from the University
of British Columbia Faculty
of Law in 1975 was called to the British
Columbia Bar in 1976.
His
book, Discovery Practice in British Columbia, was published
in 1999 by Continuing
Legal Education Society of British Columbia and has been updated
annually since that time. It is the standard practice text in the
area of discovery for lawyers in British Columbia.
He has been an ad hoc instructor with the ICBC Operations Education
Department since 1985, teaching adjusters about damages in personal
injury law.
Along with Robert Brun, Lyle was an instructor
in the field of insurance law at Capilano
College in the Paralegal
Program from 1994 to 1997.
In
2000-2001, Lyle acted as compensation counsel for Thomas Sophonow
in a Commission of Inquiry before Peter deC. Cory (retired Justice
of the Supreme Court of Canada) into Mr. Sophonow's wrongful conviction
for murder in Manitoba in 1982. The recommendations of the Commission
included a recommendation for compensation for Mr. Sophonow of $2.66
million.
